ART FARM 2011

A day to plant seeds of friendship,
nourish creativity and harvest new skills.
The Fort Gallery will host a day of workshops and fun at the
country home of one of their members. The day will run
from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with a great selection of hands-on
workshops and demos from experienced artists and teachers.
There will also be life drawing sessions and an art show.
Come and share skills and ideas or spend your day painting
in a beautiful landscape with ponds and horses.
Adults at any level of art making practice are welcome.
The "Art Farm" will be located at the home of Susan Falk.

For those coming from Vancouver, "232nd South" is a main exit off of HWY #1.
Take "232nd South", follow over the overpass, go past the gas station,
and the White Spot, and look for a sign to turn left onto 232nd.
For those coming from South Surrey or White Rock,
follow 16th ave. and turn left onto 232nd street.
The farm is located about the 10th farm down, turn right into the driveway.
There will be a Fort Gallery sign on the entrance.

Participants are encouraged to continue work that they started in the morning, attend the Digital Demo, or wander the grounds.
Gallery members will be available to give feedback.
Details about the Workshops
"Bring Zing to your Compositions"
- Pastel or Watercolour : Kristin Krimmel
Focusing on the Art Farm's rural landscapes, Kristin Krimmel
will give practical help for your composition. She will briefly
demonstrate each one in pastel, then focus an exercise on
contemporary aspects of composition that will bring dynamic
interest to your own work, whatever your subject matter may
be. Some materials provided. Bring vine charcoal, soft chalks
and a large sketch pad 16 x 20 or 18 x 24.
"Landscapes in Oil": Bob Wakefield
Learn to enhance your landscape paintings using pure colours!
This is a workshop designed for those who would like
to learn the concept of mixing colours and a better
understanding of the richness of oil paint.
No turps or solvents used in this workshop,
brushes are cleaned with vegetable oil.
Suggested medium to use is "Walnut Alkyd Medium" by
M. Graham & Co. Bring all painting supplies for painting
outdoors. Suggested sizes for painting boards or canvases
would be 10 x 12, 12 x 16 or larger.
"Multi - Coloured Reduction Relief Print":
Jo Ann Sheen & Edith Krause
Multi-coloured reduction relief prints will be created by
using everyday objects to imprint textures and patterns into
dense styrofoam.
Materials to be supplied for $5.00 surcharge.
(Tools, Styrofoam, Paper, Inks)
"Acrylic Explorations": Dorthe Eisenhardt
Participants will explore intuitive and expressive nonobjective
abstract painting with the aim of breaking free from
established limits and habits.
Supplies: good sized paintings surface (canvas, gessoed board
or masonite) - at least 30"x40". Gesso, matte medium, house
painters brush 2.5" and your regular paints and brushes.
Spray bottle, small squeeze bottles, paper towels, gloves and
sponges (kitchen type), small containers for mixed paint
and water container.
"Capturing the Movement and Spirit of The Horse":

Horses are unique with their own magical personalities.
This workshop is designed to help you capture the essence of the horse.
We will be working with live models as well as photographs.
Bring all your painting / drawing supplies,
sketch book, your choice of size canvas or boards for
paintings,easel and a camera.
"Digital Media as Artistic Tool":
Bette Laughy
Join Bette as she demonstrates the creative and ethical use of computers in one's art practice.
She will discuss giclees as digital originals,
and the most practical use of a computer when planning and executing work.
She will show you how to extend your painting in new ways using digital imaging.
Bette taught writing, graphics, and computer skills for 25 years, then turned to fine art.
She now incorporates the computer into her painting practice.

but please bring your own bag lunch so that we can all concentrate on our art making.
Workshop leaders are donating their time.
Proceeds will be used for the running of the Fort Gallery (a non-profit artists collective).
Note: This event will not be cancelled if it rains.
We will simply shift our events into the barns and buildings.
